Yes - they do. And normalizing therapy and other avenues for mental health maintenance is important. The easy routes to "deal with it" including accumulation, drinking, drugs, sex, etc - a temporary escape or numbing out of difficult emotions, memories, etc.
Ironically for me, I wrote a blog post about "dealing with your shit" back in 2019 - and then was forced to actually deal with mine in 2020 in rehab and then in recovery groups. Because writing about what I needed to do was easier (or seemed easier) than actually doing the work.
