YES - I actually found "trying" to quit the worst. Of course, I was trying alone. I had lots of ideas about "how" to quit or cut back, but they never worked. For me, a combination of recovery groups, therapy, and working 1:1 with someone else in recovery has proved helpful. In short, I needed help - I could NOT do it my way. I've now accepted that alcohol is not for me. And I keep doing the work to ensure I don't return to that hell.
