Yep - horrible. Should not be allowed. Though I do have empathy for the editors trying to ferret this out (I struggle to weed out AI in the graduate courses I teach) - I'm also not a fan of AI images - especially in light of the many AI images being used in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene (the real devastation is terrible enough and these images often accompany stories peddling misinformation).
