Yep - all the benefits (life, income, etc.) accrue to the man - a married man ends up better off and lives longer than if he were single. So, marriage becomes a priority out of self-preservation. That said, I suspect a fair number of men approach a second marriage with caution (unless they are in Ann Patchett's Commonwealth) ...
