Ugh - yes, the ease of communication has many advantages - I'm running late, I'll see you in a few, or even using GPS to see when someone may arrive. I recall calling my dad from a pay phone because my car had broken down on the way home from college. Then, just waiting. No way to know when he'd arrive or if traffic had backed him up. On the other hand, I'm glad for the times in college when I missed an answering machine message and was just reading in the library. These days, there would be a text - and an expectation that unless something was wrong, I'd respond. Those truly quiet moments alone are few and far between.
