Two Weeks on Simily
Earnings, Engagement, Experience
This is the end of my second full week writing on Simily.
My First Week on Simily. Tales from a Fiction First Platform | by Andy Spears | Jan, 2022 | Medium
I write a lot of pieces here on Medium on consumer affairs and education policy. But I also enjoy writing fiction. So, after reading an article by Kristina God, I decided to try Simily out. So far, I’m enjoying the experience.
Earnings
Last week, I noted that in one week, I’d earned 28 cents from a single story. Fast forward to this week, I’m up to 56 cents. That’s with two stories. So, 28 cents a week so far. At that rate, it will take a while to reach the $10 threshold for a payout. That said, the platform is growing, so I’m hopeful there will be more reads coming. Plus, the site pays for both internal and external views.
Engagement
At the end of one week, I had 18 followers. Now, with two weeks and two stories, I’m up to 31 followers. I’ve also engaged in some dialogue related to posts by other writers. There’s some good fiction there and there’s some non-fiction, too. In fact, some Medium writers report copying and pasting their Medium stories over at Simily. That’s fine, I guess. It can boost exposure. Since it seems there are currently just under 2000 Simily users, I’m not expecting huge engagement numbers at this point.
Experience
The overall experience at Simily has been positive. I’ve found some decent fiction to read and I’ve had at least some engagement with my pieces and with responses. Today, I published my third story there.
What are your thoughts? Have you tried Simily or another fiction platform? Do you think too much non-fiction is creeping into Simily?
In case you are curious, here are my other two stories on the site:
