TransUnion in Trouble . . . Again!

The credit bureau can’t seem to straighten up or fly right

Credit reporting agencies are not known for being nice. TransUnion, in particular, has been caught breaking the law and harming consumers multiple times in recent years.

Back in 2022, the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) lamented TransUnion’s inability to comply with the law:

“TransUnion is an out-of-control repeat offender that believes it is above the law,” said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. “I am concerned that TransUnion’s leadership is either unwilling or incapable of operating its businesses lawfully.”

It seems that concern was warranted. TransUnion is in trouble again.

In two separate investigations, federal regulators found that TransUnion failed to provide accurate information in rental background checks and failed to properly assist renters seeking to correct inaccurate information.
