Totally agree — if you are bringing in 42K views to an article, you are likely introducing a TON of new people to Medium. Bringing in new paid members makes a HUGE difference to the earnings potential for everyone. Personally, I’d vote for showing ads to external/non-members — that’s more revenue for Medium and revenue to be shared with the writers who attract those external views. Very interested in seeing how this evolves.
