I’ve been on Simily for three weeks now. It’s been a good experience so far. I was and remain curious about what it is like to publish on a fiction-first platform.

My First Week on Simily. Tales from a Fiction First Platform | by Andy Spears | Jan, 2022 | Medium

The group is relatively small there — just over 2000 members at this point. I have found, though, that new features have been added and there is some pretty consistent engagement with other writers now.

Earnings

In my first two weeks, I earned 56 cents while publishing three stories. In week three, I earned 56 cents. So, the earnings are up. I made as much last week as I did in the first two weeks. That shows that people are coming to the site and reading stories. That’s certainly encouraging.

My most recent story there is here:

Birds of Pray — Simily

Engagement

I have worked to be intentional about engaging with other writers every day. I read pieces that catch my eye and leave comments and feedback consistently. I’ve also seen some feedback on the pieces I’ve published. No, it’s not a ton of feedback or engagement like here on Medium, but it is something. Considering the site is still new and small, I’m encouraged by the potential.

Stories

In addition to the story I put up today, I have published three other stories. They are all fiction pieces. For me what’s attractive about Simily is the fiction focus. So, I plan to consistently publish fiction there. Here are the other stories I’ve published on the platform:

Have you tried Simily yet? If so, what’s your experience been like? What other platforms or outlets have you found for publishing fiction?
