This makes me think of my Netflix habits. Murder shows - I get recommendations for all kinds of dark dramas and shows where there are mysterious, nefarious characters. I like watching the European ones - for some reason, they seem darker. Maybe it's the subtitles? Anyway - since this is what I like to watch, I'm betting there are a bunch of readers out there craving darkness... or, wanting to see a dark story and its resolution. Perhaps darkness, too, is about being relatable - about solving problems.
