This is true - I have a friend who always asks, "did you learn the lesson?" That's a question to ask yourself - to use the hindsight to prevent a similar pairing going forward - but, you can't beat yourself up and it's not helpful to judge/put someone else down b/c they ended up in an abusive situation. Until you've been in one, you can't know how difficult it can be to escape.
