School lunch debt should not exist.

But in states like Tennessee, it does.

One district in the state considered hiring a debt collection firm to squeeze funds from families whose kids had outstanding school meal debt.

Another district forces kids to eat an alternative lunch separately from the cafeteria if their school lunch debt reaches a certain level.

The easy and affordable solution is this: Free school meals for all kids every day.
