Shaving With Mr. Taylor
A travel bag surprise
I’m a fan of shaving.
The steam. The warm water on skin. The moisturizing nature of shaving creams.
I use a brush sometimes — though mostly, I use a simple lather of old-fashioned Barbasol.
This week, I was out of town for a work-related trip.
I packed my shaving kit, and included a travel tube of Mr. Taylor’s shaving cream. This cream, made by Taylor of Old Bond Street, was new to me. I’d bought it thanks to a gift held over from my birthday.
I’ve used Taylor products before and liked them. I also have a deep appreciation of the shaving products once made by Penhaligon’s.
So, on the first morning of my trip, I squeeze a bit of Taylor into my hands and immediately am swept up in the aroma.
The lather is thick and pleasant and the shave is close and wonderful.
The best part — the light, bright scent lingers most of the day — a reminder of the rather pleasant start to my day.
Oh, and the cream was so good — so effective — that I had no need for an aftershave.
In fact, I liked the experience so much that prior to a late evening dinner, I shaved again — no need for cologne, the scent sat close to me and likely was undetectable by my guests (unless one of them had hugged me).
Today, I was back home — and back to my home routine, no Mr. Taylor. I’m not sure, though, I can wait until my next trip to encounter him again.
