Rhetoric vs. Reality: Bill Lee’s Policies Don’t Match His Proclamations
And other Tennessee news
Gov. Bill Lee made a big deal of pushing a “day of prayer and fasting” in the State of Tennessee. The idea was, well, it’s not clear what it was to accomplish except to make Lee feel better and claim his faith in the public square.
Some Tennessee pastors, however, were not amused.
Rev. Matt Steinhauer, Interim Pastor at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Franklin said:
“Governor Lee: Pastors across Tennessee have a message for you on your declared day of fasting and prayer. Your call for Tennesseans to pray while neglecting justice in policy reminds us of the words of the prophet Amos who said, ‘I can’t stand your religious meetings, and I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions.’”
