A haunting happening around Halloween

“Hey. Sarah Jane said when she was at the store with Makenzie she saw that princess costume.”

“Uh-huh.”

“You know, the one she’s been telling us about. She wants that one. She saw it the other day. It’s there. So, I figured since you were home today, you could go pick it up.”

“Sure, yeah, I’ll do that — anything for our princess.”

Trevor walks from his daughter’s room to the kitchen. He grabs the bottle of bourbon on the counter, takes a sip. Then pours into the shot glass he keeps next to the coffee pot. Drinks the shot.

Finds his keys in the desk in his study.

Opens the garage.

Pulls his luxury sedan into the driveway.

He’s wearing sweatpants and a polo shirt and shoes that are untied.

The store is two minutes from their home in an exclusive development in a suburb of a growing city.

Trevor walks into the store — feeling pretty good because of the recent hit of alcohol added to the three doses he had early in the morning. It’s 10:30 now and he really hasn’t done anything at home or for work. Sent a few emails to “look busy” and then sat on the couch and browsed through the Netflix options.
