My NewsBreak Earnings were 7x My Medium Earnings in April
That’s because I had a really solid Medium month
I’ve been writing on NewsBreak for over a year now and I’ve found the site to be a reliable source of monthly income.
No, I’m not paying my mortgage with my NewsBreak earnings, but I am earning a decent side income that definitely makes my financial life more comfortable.
Typically, I earn between 10x and 15x my Medium earnings on NewsBreak. Yes, I write 20–30 Medium stories a month and regularly engage, etc. Still, I’ve found NewsBreak to be the most reliable source of income in terms of writing. This is true even with the recent algorithm change to the site.
This month, I had my best month on Medium since July. That’s encouraging, but I’ve been around Medium long enough to know it could be another six months before I see earnings like this here again.
By way of comparison, I can count on a certain minimum from NewsBreak as long as I maintain my output there. It’s been pretty consistent.
I know that may change, too. But for now, I’ll take it.
What does NewsBreak want? They like local news and happenings — restaurant reviews, events, openings, etc.
I write a lot about politics and some about consumer finance issues.
In fact, my highest earning story in April was about Wells Fargo — published at the very end of March and earned into early April.
I like getting to write about the issues I care about and also earning money from that.
I’ll keep writing on Medium for the community and the chance to grow my writing. I’m just not counting on big earnings here.
