My Highest-Earning NewsBreak Story in August was About Project 2025

Apparently, it’s a touchy subject

While I’ve started writing more personal stories here at Medium, I also write about consumer finance and education policy — primarily over at Substack.

Then, there’s straight news. You know, just the facts.

I’ve been writing short news stories over at NewsBreak for nearly two years now.

It can sometimes be financially rewarding. Enough, at least, that I keep doing it.

Until recently, I earned more over at NewsBreak than I did here at Medium.

While that’s changing some (more money coming in at Medium), NewsBreak continues to be a reliable way to earn money from writing.

Yes, the comments are generally atrocious.

But, I just ignore them. There’s no real incentive to interact. It can be quite comical, really.

Political stories — especially those on hot, controversial topics — tend to do well. I also find that stories with a local angle that incorporate politics get solid distribution — and therefore, solid earnings.

In August, a story about how one Tennessee advocacy group views Project 2025 was my strongest-performing NewsBreak story.
