My Highest-Earning NewsBreak Story in April was About Labor Unions

Workers scored a big victory at VW Chattanooga

While the numbers at NewsBreak are not as good as they once were in terms of earnings, it’s still a decent place to earn money writing.

Each month, I note my top-earning story. Typically, it’s about a controversial political topic with a local angle.

In April, it was a story about the United Auto Workers (UAW) winning their organizing drive and forming a union at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga.

This was a big win — Tennessee’s Governor, Bill Lee, vocally opposed the measure. So did Tennessee’s two U.S. Senators. And the Mayor of Hamilton County (where Chattanooga is located).

Two previous attempts to unionize the VW plant failed.

Interestingly, the Chattanooga plant was the only VW plant in the world NOT unionized.

Until April.

So, it was big, big news and it happened in TN.
