This past week in Tennessee politics demonstrated that the state’s supermajority is advancing an agenda at odds with democracy.

Here are a few stories from the week on issues ranging from reproductive rights to education policy.

First, a look at the impact of Tennessee’s near-total abortion ban:

Next, a plea for policymakers to enact commonsense gun reform:

Rev. Michael McNair Pastor of First A.M.E. Zion Church in Knoxville addressed the urgency of the issue, saying, “The special session in August must address the crisis of gun violence in Tennessee, and pass common sense reforms. So we’ve come together collectively to try to make a difference in our state in the state of Tennessee. As you know, there’s a supermajority and they pretty much do what they want to do. So we want to hold those persons who are in position of authority accountable for that.”

In Nashville, a candidate for Mayor suggested she’d takeover the city’s schools if the elected School Board didn’t bend to her will and become more friendly to school privatization by way of charter schools:
