A story of a month on Medium
After I’d been writing on Medium for a bit, I began a monthly update of my top 5 earning stories each month.
I did this for two reasons:
- It forced me to look at the stories that were getting attention from readers
- As a writer, I benefit from knowing what works for other writers. By sharing my top stories, I hope to offer some insight into what works for me — that may work for you.
In my profile (which I may eventually update), I talk about writing on consumer affairs, education policy, and politics.
I still write about those topics. However, I mostly cover these newsy items over at NewsBreak and delve deeper into them on my Substacks that cover education policy and consumer finance.
More recently, though, I’ve been writing personal essays. Memories of childhood experiences, trials of adulthood, stories of a recovery journey.
These more personal pieces seem to have resonated with a group of readers — and also end up earning some Medium money.
