It can be a pretty reliable source of income if you write straight news - doesn't have to be local, can be somewhat evergreen. I write consumer finance pieces there (and some TN politics) - and my pieces get decent traction - they do all the distributing to their readers (heavily favoring app users) - no, they don't allow fiction and shorter pieces tend to do well. If this is the type of writing you enjoy (or can do), it could be worth it for the consistent payout.
