Is There a Secret to Writing Top- Earning NewsBreak Stories?
Just a little Christmas gift for writers exploring that platform
I’ve been writing at NewsBreak for over a year now and have found the platform to be a reliable source of writing income.
I write about Tennessee politics, consumer finance, and education issues there.
The straight news writing at NewsBreak complements my advocacy writing on both consumer issues and education policy.
The earnings are also pretty nice.
So, I decided to take a look at my best month ever on NewsBreak (October 2023) and see what stories were big hits.
Yes, part of the game is regularly churning out content. But the big-money stories are the ones I want more of. So, what’s the secret sauce?
Here’s the story from October that received the most impressions:
It was timely, political, and controversial. Mike Johnson had just become Speaker of the House, people were asking questions about him, and this story presented a somewhat different take.
It’s noteworthy that though this story had 6 million impressions (number of times it was shown to NB readers), it was not my most-viewed story in October.
That honor belongs to this story:
Again — timely, political, and controversial. It had 5 million impressions, but more than twice as many views as the Mike Johnson piece.
