By the time I finally “retired” from my career as a professional drinker, I drank every single day.

I’d start at 7:30 in the morning with two shots of bourbon and a big mug of black coffee for breakfast.

I’d work a bit, then have a celebratory cocktail.

Lunch included a sandwich, a soda, and some alcohol.

And so on.

And, of course, at night, after dinner, there’d be some drinks so I could “chill out” from the difficult day of drinking all day while trying to accomplish something resembling work.

But my problematic drinking was only for a limited time — I’d once been a very rare drinker.

On family vacations, I’d buy some alcohol before we left. In the mornings, I’d make a cocktail to go with breakfast. It seemed to help add to the chill vibe — especially with a young one in tow.

We’d go about our day, usually find a spot for dinner, and then return. While young one slept, we’d have a drink or two — just relaxing and listening to the waves.

After that one week of living carefree and drinking daily, I’d go back to my daily routine of not drinking at all.
