I Don’t Know Enough About This Turkey
A Thanksgiving stuffed with politics
Overall, I enjoyed a pleasant trip to visit family back in Kentucky this past Thanksgiving.
However, a brief conversation with my mom still leaves me baffled.
Consider the neighborhood tradition — one family agrees to host Thanksgiving and provide the turkey.
For years, this responsibility rotated among families and all went relatively well.
Sure, there were a few surprises. Overall, though, and incrementally, the experience just got a bit better.
The whole time, though, the Jones family kept complaining about how the dinner was handled.
If only the Jones clan could host, there would be so much turkey. And stuffing. Dressing, too. The most amazing meal ever, truly.
Alas, neighbors ignored the complaints of Jones. But, Jones was relentless.
And insistent. Jones alone could prepare the most decadent feast. In fact, while most neighbors only saw the need for a few corrections, Jones said the whole meal was broken. And Jones alone could fix it.
And so, Jones finally got a turn.
Rather than rise to the occasion, Jones prepared the meal in a state of complaint. Neighbors…
