I do not understand how a parent can know with certainty that their spouse/partner is abusing their child and still stay. My dad had a range of issues, but never physically abused my sister or me - instead, he was very aware of what our mom did to us - he did nothing to stop it. I suppose confronting her would have made life more difficult for him. Frankly, of all the things, this is still the hardest to understand.
