I definitely remember driving as the ultimate escape. I lived in a rural area and the curvy, wooded roads for perfect for feeling lost - and getting absorbed into another world. When I got a job, I realized I could time out the drive by taking the "back way" and get home when everyone else was in bed. I coped by escaping my feelings, though - it took me a long time to address them head on. Thanks for this piece and this memory.
