Funny, that. I used to think that my drinking would make me a better writer - 1) fun/weird experiences to write about 2) a "loosening" of the mind - 3) all the great writers who also drank a ton (like Jack London or Thomas Wolfe) - I discovered that writing and drinking was an endless circle - getting feelings/thoughts out on paper - then drinking to numb them - then writing again and so on - and then, too, I've since read some of my "writing while drinking" - and, um, well - not so great, it turns out. So grateful to still have writing - and to do it with a clear mind.
