Absolutely! Our kids (esp. at a young age) follow our lead - and seek our approval. Setting clear boundaries and expectations is the way to love them - as they get older, it is important to let them try things and fail - even if it might be easier to solve the problem and prevent them from hurting - this is tough - As a parent of a now-adult daughter, I take comfort that she takes time to talk with me - about her boyfriend, anxiety about leaving for college, etc - and it makes me realize I didn't have that option - First, start with love - second, realize that loves looks like different actions depending on age and situation - what a great example you've shown to your girls, Michele!
