$5000 a Month on Medium?
It is possible, at least for one writer who wrote about it

How did she do it? Well, persistence is the short answer.
I don’t say it took me 4 months to grow to 4,000 followers because the truth is, it took much longer than that. Over a year at under 100 followers and then some key changes which helped me grow at an extremely rapid pace.
I mean, it seems like the real key is persistence — writing every day, experimenting, seeing what gains traction. By going to NewsBreak, Leach was able to refine her writing and get results. When she returned to Medium, she had a formula that drew in readers. So, now, here she is. A badass writer with some high earning months. I mean, let’s be honest — if you can make between $4000-$5000 consistently on Medium, it can be your main job, not your side hustle.
Again, though, there seems to be one constant thread with people who actually earn decent money on Medium: Persistence.
